The vibe

545 miles of purpose

AIDS/LifeCycle is the largest HIV/AIDS fundraising cycling event in the world — 545 miles from San Francisco’s Cow Palace to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum over seven days, with full camp support for 2,000+ riders and 500+ roadies. It’s part charity ride, part community celebration, part endurance event, and fully unlike anything else in cycling.

The route runs down the California coast — some of the most beautiful cycling in North America — through Sonoma County wine country, along the Big Sur coast, through Santa Barbara and Ventura. A fully supported tent city breaks down and reassembles each night at the next day’s camp. Medical teams, mechanics, food stations, and an extraordinary community of volunteers make the logistics invisible.

The minimum fundraising requirement is $3,000, which most participants exceed. The event has raised over $300 million for HIV/AIDS services since 2002. But the numbers don’t capture what happens when 2,500 people cycle the length of California together over a week — the community that forms on the road, the stories exchanged at dinner, the shared achievement on the finish line in Los Angeles. Register in fall for the following year.
