ATX Full Moon Cruise
Austin's monthly midnight bike ride on the weekend closest to the full moon — casual city cruise from Pfluger Bridge under the moon. In September, the historic Moonlight Cruise.
The vibe
Midnight city cruise under the moon
The concept is straightforward: wait for the full moon, show up at Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge after dark, and ride through Austin with a crowd of people doing exactly the same thing. The ATX Full Moon Cruise runs monthly on whichever Friday or Saturday falls closest to the full moon — which means the timing shifts each month in a way that keeps it from becoming routine.
Assembly starts at 11:30 PM with rollout happening between then and midnight. The city looks different at that hour — quieter roads, better light from the moon when the sky is clear, and the particular energy of people choosing to be on bikes in the middle of the night. The ride is unsupported and self-organized; bring lights, tools, water, and a phone.
September is special: the annual Moonlight Cruise, a tradition dating to 1982, rides at 2:00 AM instead of the usual midnight. That one has accumulated enough history to be a genuine Austin cycling institution. Check the ATX Moon Facebook group or cycling.frenzied.us for the monthly schedule and route information.
