Austin Bicycle Meals
Austin's pedal-powered charity ride — volunteers deliver meals, water, and supplies to unhoused neighbors by bike every Saturday. No bike required.
The vibe
Pedal-powered acts of kindness
Every Saturday afternoon, a small caravan of cargo bikes, baskets, and side-saddles loaded with hot food and cold water rolls out of East Austin. This isn’t a training ride — it’s a delivery run, bringing meals, menstrual kits, dog food, and even Narcan to unhoused neighbors downtown. Started by Kelly Wourms in 2021 after she learned the concept from cyclists in Koreatown, LA, the group now distributes around 450 meals a month.
You don’t need your own bike to show up. The group keeps loaner bikes and backpacks on hand, and plenty of volunteers arrive on foot, by scooter, or by car to help pack and hand out supplies. Rides meet at 207 E Monroe St at 2:00 PM on Saturdays, with an additional ride every other Wednesday at 5:30 PM.
There’s no post-ride brewery stop here — the reward is watching a route come together as a genuine act of neighborhood care. It’s a good fit for riders who want their miles to mean something beyond exercise, and a low-pressure way to meet other Austin cyclists in the process.
