Austin's flagship Juneteenth ride traces the city's Black freedom communities and history — an all-abilities 8.5-mile roll ending in a block party.

Black History Bike Ride started in summer 2020 as a small ride among friends and has grown into one of Austin’s most meaningful annual group rides. The flagship Juneteenth Social Ride is an all-abilities 8.5-mile route starting at The Haskell House, moving through the city’s historic Black “freedom communities” — past sites like Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church, WWII veteran Richard Overton’s house, and the Carver Museum.
The pace is easy and the group is guided, so this works for riders who don’t do organized rides often. It’s part history lesson, part community celebration, and the storytelling along the route is the whole point — nobody’s racing to the finish.
The ride ends in a Juneteenth block party with live music and performers. BHBR also runs a Black History Month ride each February and partners with the Major Taylor Cycling Club and the Austin Parks Foundation. Free to join, donations welcomed.
