The vibe

Dirt, jumps, good people

The name “Dirty Church” gives it away — this is Sunday morning religion for Austin’s dirt jump and BMX crowd. The session runs weekly at 9th Street BMX with a short but meaningful ritual: before anyone starts hitting features, the group does a bit of trail maintenance. Raking lips, reshaping landings, moving dirt. It takes maybe fifteen minutes, and it’s why the park stays rideable.

The 9th Street BMX facility isn’t massive, but it’s been a consistent gathering point for Austin riders who care about the craft of jumping rather than just covering distance. Sessions attract a tight-knit crew — experienced riders who are happy to watch, spot, or offer encouragement as less experienced riders work up to features. The atmosphere is self-regulating in the way small community parks tend to be.

This is an MTBATX-organized session, which means it connects to the broader Austin mountain bike community that runs the Tuesday night Crank-N-Drank and the Celis Brewery Thursday ride. Check mtbatx.com for any session-specific updates.
