The vibe
Your weekend starts on Thursday
Thursday night racing in Austin has a home: the Driveway Series. Running every Thursday from March through October on a smooth 1.6-mile closed circuit just five miles from downtown, this is the largest weekly criterium race series in America — and it’s been that way since 2005. Categories run from beginner to elite, races start at 5:00 PM, and the whole thing wraps up around sundown.
The circuit at 8400 Delwau Lane is a proper race venue — 44 feet wide, well-maintained asphalt, no traffic. Criterium racing is fast and tactical: short laps, pack dynamics, repeated accelerations. If you’ve never raced a crit, beginner categories exist specifically for you. If you have, there are fast fields that will make you work. The Mini Series format gives you a six-week competition window within the season with prize packs for category omnium winners.
Register through BikeReg before race day. Thursday nights at the Driveway have become a fixture of Austin cycling culture — you’ll see familiar faces week after week as the season builds. Spectators welcome; bring a camp chair.
