BICP-certified two-day mountain bike skills clinic in Austin covering body position, braking, cornering, and trail technique for all levels at Walnut Creek Metro Park.
The vibe
Learn to shred, properly
The fundamentals of mountain biking are learnable, and learning them from a certified instructor compresses years of self-taught trial and error into a weekend. Austin Ridge Riders’ BICP-certified Level 1 clinic covers the core skills that make riding safer and more fun: neutral and ready body position, bike and body separation, pedal position, braking technique, scanning ahead, cornering, speed control, and gearing.
Two sessions are available in 2026 — June 13-14 and September 12-13 — both at Walnut Creek Metro Park, which is ARR’s home trail system and one of Austin’s best. Walnut Creek provides a range of terrain suitable for skill practice without overwhelming beginners. The clinic runs both days, giving participants time to work on skills, get feedback, and reinforce what they’ve learned before it’s over.
Cost is $150 for ARR members and $250 for non-members. Registration through austinridgeriders.com. The BICP (Bicycle Instructor Certification Program) credential means the instruction meets a recognized standard — this isn’t informal coaching but a structured curriculum delivered by qualified instructors.
