This is the one that started it all, staged out of the Del Mar Polo Fields on the Southern California coast. Three distances split the field: the Waffle at 106.5 miles and roughly 7,500 feet of climbing across 25 unroad sectors (40% off-road), the Wafer at 60 miles with 16 unroad sectors, and the Wanna at 32.7 miles for riders who want a taste of the chaos without the full day.
Terrain rolls between coastal tarmac, gravel, sandy sectors, and steep punchy climbs — organizers call it “the Hell of the North (County),” and world-class pros line up next to weekend warriors for what they bill as “beautiful suffering.” It’s the flagship of the BWR series for a reason.
The weekend runs as a full festival: Saturday adds the Gran Roadie-Oh road options and an Unroad Expo with live music, food, and 65+ exhibitors, and there’s a finisher beer waiting at the line. Part of the Quad-Tripel Crown alongside Arizona, Utah, and Montana.
