The vibe

Red rock, relentless climbing

The Belgian Waffle Ride Utah edition puts the series’ signature format into southern Utah’s most dramatic terrain — Cedar City sits at the edge of the Colorado Plateau, and the BWR course runs directly into it. The full Waffle covers 145 miles with over 11,000 feet of climbing on mixed pavement and dirt roads through red rock country that most cyclists never ride. Shorter Wafer and Cookie distances offer the same character with less accumulated punishment.

The BWR format rewards riders who can handle both pavement and dirt without separating the two — you’ll transition between surfaces throughout, which requires a wider tire setup than a pure road race but nothing that demands a full gravel bike. The Utah landscape makes this one of the more visually striking editions in the series: the contrast between red canyon terrain and morning light on Cedar City’s high desert is hard to beat.

Cedar City makes a functional event base — close enough to Zion and Bryce Canyon to turn the weekend into something larger. Register through the BWR platform when registration opens (typically sells out months in advance). Elevation here sits around 5,800 feet, modest by Colorado standards but enough to factor into your hydration and pacing on a long June day.
