Bighorn Gravel puts Eagle County’s high country on full display, routing riders through 85 or 50 miles of climbing gravel roads with the Gore Range as a constant backdrop. It’s a legitimate mountain race — the elevation gain adds up fast, and riders coming from lower altitude should plan to arrive a day or two early to acclimate.
The reward for the climbing is descending fast, well-maintained gravel with views that make you forget your legs are burning. Both distances mix ranch roads with forest service terrain, so expect some variety in surface quality throughout the day.
