Biking Bay Area Backroads
Seasoned cyclists exploring every Bay Area backroad from Sonoma to Santa Cruz — 40-70 mile routes with 3,000-6,000 ft climbing, plus occasional centuries and road trips.
The vibe
Every backroad, no shortcuts
The Bay Area’s backroads — the ones that run through vineyards in Sonoma, drop into coastal canyons south of San Francisco, and wind through the Santa Cruz Mountains — are where experienced cyclists want to spend their weekends. This group systematically explores all of them, rotating through North Bay, South Bay, and East Bay to ensure nothing gets repeated too often.
Routes average 40–70 miles with 3,000–6,000 feet of climbing, which puts them firmly in the demanding category. Occasional centuries and road trips extend the range further when conditions call for it. This isn’t a group for riders building fitness — it’s for riders who already have it and want to use it on roads worth the effort.
Free to join, check the Meetup page for current schedule. Be honest about your fitness level before RSVPing — 6,000 feet of climbing in the Bay Area hills is serious work, and the group rides at a pace that expects riders to be prepared.
