Boone sits high enough in North Carolina’s High Country that August temperatures hover around a merciful 80°F — a real selling point for a summer gran fondo, when most of the Southeast is a sauna. The wooded mountain climbs and descents here are the main event, with the cooler air making the effort feel more manageable than the elevation profile suggests.
Three distances (Gran at ~80 miles, Medio at ~55, Piccolo at ~25) each carry their own timed segments per the series’ usual format — overall finish time doesn’t matter, only your combined time on the designated sections.
