BTCEB Youth Mountain Bike Adventures
BTCEB guides underserved East Bay youth on mountain bike rides through the parks, pairing each kid with an adult mentor, plus a free helmet and T-shirt.
The vibe
First trail ride, free helmet included
Youth Mountain Bike Adventures is BTCEB’s program for introducing underserved East Bay kids to trail riding, and it’s built to remove every barrier that usually keeps a first-timer off a mountain bike. Each young rider gets paired with an adult BTCEB member who guides them through the basics, and everyone leaves with a helmet and a T-shirt to keep.
The rides run monthly from May through September, visiting East Bay Regional Parks near Berkeley and Oakland. A healthy lunch is included, and the pace is set entirely around teaching — nobody’s out to log miles, they’re out to get a kid comfortable on dirt for the first time.
It’s a different audience than BTCEB’s adult rides (Gala Rides, Ride Like a Girl), but it’s run by the same trail-maintaining organization, so the same spirit of showing people a good time on singletrack carries through.
