CCC New Year's Day Weather Be Damned Ride
Chicago Cycling Club's annual January 1st ride — 12 miles through West Town regardless of snow, sleet, or ice. Ends with lunch at Red Apple in Logan Square.
The vibe
No excuses, just ride
January 1st in Chicago is not a day most people choose to get on a bike. The Chicago Cycling Club does it anyway, every year, no matter what the weather decides to do. The Weather Be Damned Ride is 12 miles through West Town — short enough that there’s no excuse not to go, and miserable enough on bad years that finishing feels like a genuine accomplishment.
The ride starts at Eckhart Park Field House and ends at Red Apple restaurant in Logan Square, where lunch is the reward for everyone who showed up. Led by Lisa Curcio, the event has developed the kind of loyal following that annual traditions earn when they’re built around a genuinely good idea: start the year moving instead of horizontal.
Hangovers are not an official excuse. Neither is snow, sleet, or ice — the name says it all. CCC membership required. Show up in layers.
