DBTC Intermediate Road Rides – Weekend Challenges
Denver Bicycle Touring Club's longer weekend road rides — 25-40+ miles with 1,500-2,000 ft of gain for experienced cyclists seeking a real front-range workout.
The vibe
Leg-burner loops, earn your miles
DBTC’s weekend intermediate rides are where the Denver front range earns its reputation. These routes push 25-40+ miles with 1,500-2,000 feet of climbing — enough to feel it in your legs come Monday. Think Chatfield loops, Bear Creek climbs, and the rolling terrain south and west of the city where the roads open up and the grades remind you why you have gears.
The pace is brisk but not brutal. Unlike the club’s leisurely Wednesday rides, the weekend routes attract riders who came to work. Groups typically break by ability, so you’re riding with people moving at a similar clip rather than struggling to hold a wheel or waiting at every corner. It’s a step up from the casual rides but well below the drop-ride intensity of some Denver clubs.
Routes vary week to week — check dbtc.org for the current schedule and starting location. Bring the usual: helmet, water, a snack for longer routes, and a basic repair kit. DBTC has been running these rides for decades, so the route quality is consistently good.
