Alpine climbs, big views, earned ice cream
DBTC’s Summit County rides are the club’s highest-altitude offerings, and the payoff is proportional to the drive. Options depart from Frisco and Copper Mountain — carpooling is strongly encouraged — and climb into genuinely spectacular high-country terrain.
The Fun Plus version (H3, 32 miles) follows the multi-use trail from Frisco to Vail Pass and back, with capacity capped at 10 riders. On select rides, the group detours through Breckenridge for free ice cream — which somehow tastes better at 9,000 feet. The Intermediate version, described by leader Jeff Krinsky as “NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART,” covers 27 miles and 3,000 feet of gain: West Ten Mile Creek Trail to Vail Pass, Gore Creek Campground, then back to Copper Mountain. Bring your best climbing legs and a wind vest for the descent.
Meets at I-70 Exit 201 (Main St, Frisco). DBTC membership ($35/year individual) required after one guest ride. Cancels in afternoon thunderstorm conditions — keep a close eye on mountain weather forecasts before making the drive.
