The vibe

Old-school club, no-drop spirit

Denver Bicycle Touring Club has been putting riders together on Colorado roads and trails longer than most local cyclists have been alive — it’s the oldest continuously operating bike club in the Denver metro. Each month’s schedule is packed with rides spread across the week, organized by pace level: Fun (H2 moderate), Fun Plus, and Intermediate (H3 with real climbing). Whether you want a flat trail cruise along the South Platte or a 34-mile grind up to Evergreen with 2,800 feet of gain, there’s a ride on the board for you.

Every ride has a named leader with a phone number — the kind of detail that actually matters when you’re standing at a trailhead at 9:45 AM wondering if you have the right parking lot. Routes lean toward Denver’s extensive paved trail network: Highline Canal, South Platte, Peaks-to-Prairie, C-470 trail, with occasional road excursions out to Golden or into the foothills. Most weekday rides depart around 10 AM, making them a natural fit for retired riders and flexible schedules, but weekend departures are timed for everyone.

DBTC runs on volunteers — ride leaders, route managers, and event planners — and the vibe reflects that: organized, friendly, and serious about safety without being precious about it. New riders are genuinely welcome, and the visitor info section on the site makes clear this is a club that wants to grow. Check the monthly ride schedule on the site or follow them on Meetup for current listings.
