You show up. You don’t know where you’re going. Someone fans out a deck of cards, you draw one, and that card tells the whole group where to ride. That’s the whole premise of the First Sunday Surprise Adventure, and it’s been pulling Denverites out to Wash Park Boathouse on the first Sunday of every month since late 2024.
The pace is firmly in casual territory — this is Bike Streets, after all, a crew that’s been running free, welcoming rides for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds since 2018. The randomness of the destination is the point: it gets you into corners of the city you’d never plan a route to, past blocks you’ve driven by a hundred times but never actually seen from a bike.
By the mid-teens in the series numbering, this ride has developed a genuine regulars crowd alongside a steady stream of first-timers. No registration, no gear requirements, no drop. Just show up with a working bike, a curious mind, and a willingness to be mildly surprised.
