Now in its sixteenth year, Edwardsville’s criterium festival has become the Illinois Cup’s finale — a fitting spot to close out the season, since it doubles as a genuine street festival. The five-turn course with its quarter-mile Main Street straightaway keeps the racing fast and technical, but it’s the surrounding scene that sets this one apart.
Free kids’ races and a two-lap “Downtown Dash” run bring families out even if they’re not racing, and there’s live music, a kids’ art tent, and food vendors lining Main Street all day. Edwardsville itself is worth the trip regardless — a college town 25 miles from St. Louis, sitting near the 130-mile MCT Trails system if you want to extend the visit.
