Dice decide — 16 years of beautiful chaos
At every intersection, someone rolls dice. Odd goes left, even goes right, and nobody — including the organizer — knows where the ride will end up. Get Lost! has been doing this since 2010, accumulating sixteen years of rides that went places no one planned. Sometimes it’s beautiful, sometimes it’s strange, and occasionally it’s the kind of semi-hairy adventure that gives the event its honest subtitle.
This is not the ride for someone who needs to be home by a specific time. It’s the ride for someone who wants to experience Portland’s streets as a random walk — the residential blocks you never notice, the industrial corridors nobody cycles through intentionally, the unexpected dead-end that forces a reroute. The organizer Scott Batchelar has been running it long enough to treat all outcomes with equanimity.
Gather at Pod 28 on SE 28th and Ankeny at 5 PM. Bring lights, because late June evenings in Portland are long but not infinite, and the dice don’t always cooperate with the golden hour. Bring snacks for the same reason. The ride is free, part of Pedalpalooza, and requires only a bike, some good humor, and the willingness to end up somewhere unexpected.
