The route runs through Gunnison’s high desert, where the terrain is rugged and exposed and the cell service disappears for long stretches, so this is a race that rewards self-sufficiency.
Expect open sky, dirt ranch roads, and long sightlines where you can watch the rider ahead of you disappear into the distance. It’s a course that punishes poor pacing and poor planning in equal measure — bring more water and more spares than you think you’ll need.
