Kremmling doesn’t have the name recognition of Steamboat or Salida, but Kowtown Gravel makes the case for it. The course runs through wide, exposed high-alpine valleys where there’s nowhere to hide from wind, sun, or the mountain thunderstorms that can roll in fast on a June afternoon.
That exposure is the whole character of the race — long, open sightlines and terrain that punishes riders who show up without a real weather plan. Pack layers regardless of the forecast, and treat any storm clouds on the horizon as a countdown clock.
