The vibe
No one rides alone in Marin
Marin Cyclists has been operating for over 60 years, and the Sunday Newcomer Ride distills the club’s most welcoming qualities into one weekly outing. Departing from Red Whale Coffee in Marin, the ride covers about 30 miles at a pace where the goal is to bring everyone to the finish — lots of regroups, no pressure to push, a group that understands the difference between riding together and riding in the same general direction.
This is specifically designed for riders who are new to group cycling or who want to experience Marin’s road network without having to keep up with faster riders. Your first ride is covered by club insurance, and registration and a waiver are required before joining. It’s a low-barrier entry into one of California’s oldest cycling clubs.
Marin Cyclists offers rides throughout the week at various pace levels — Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The Newcomer Ride is the right starting point before stepping into the club’s more demanding weekday routes. Check the club website for current Sunday departure details; Red Whale Coffee is the anchor but specific meetup logistics can vary.
