The vibe

Roll the snow, skip the race

Not everyone shows up to the City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival to race. The Fat Bike Tour is the 9K recreational option for riders who want to experience the magic of fat biking on groomed ski trails without the competitive pressure — just a crisp February morning, fresh snow, and Theodore Wirth Park to yourself (mostly).

The Tour follows a condensed version of the same course as the full 30K Fat Bike Loppet, winding through Theodore Wirth’s forested parkways and groomed cross-country ski trails. Fat bikes (3.8” tires or wider, under 10 psi) are required to protect the snowpack that makes the whole event possible. It’s one of the rare days the park opens its ski trail network to cyclists, making it a genuinely special experience regardless of your pace.

Part of the broader City of Lakes Loppet Winter Festival weekend alongside skiing, snowshoeing, and competitive fat bike racing, the Tour is the entry point for curious riders who want to see what all the Minneapolis winter cycling fuss is about. Dress warm, pump your tires low, and enjoy the silence of snow-covered singletrack in the heart of the city.
