Sand, dunes, and a season send-off
Half Acre Cycling closes out the ChiCrossCup season at Montrose Dog Beach, trading the wooded courses of earlier rounds for sand, grass, and dune terrain right on Lake Michigan. Sand sections are brutal on legs already worn down from a full autumn of racing — this is as much a test of will as fitness by December.
As the last event of the year, it draws a celebratory crowd — racers closing out the series together, whatever the standings ended up looking like. Dress for lakefront wind; December on the Chicago shoreline doesn’t go easy on anyone.
