The vibe
SoCal's toughest climbing gran fondo
The Mulholland Challenge doesn’t hide what it’s about: climbing. Routes stack up through Old Topanga Canyon, Westlake Blvd, and Cotharin Road in the Santa Monica Mountains, with the full 105-mile option racking up nearly 12,700 feet of gain before you’re done. It’s the kind of course where the descents down Yerba Buena, Deer Creek, and Mulholland Highway feel like a genuine reward rather than a formality.
Four distance options mean you can pick your suffering — 62, 75, 80, or the full century-plus route — and every one of them shares the same stocked aid stations and chip-timed results. It also opens Planet Ultra’s King of the Mountains Century Challenge series, so serious climbers treat this as the first data point of their season.
Start and finish at the Hampton Inn in Agoura Hills; parking’s tight at the hotel, so most riders use the adjacent office complex lot.
