The vibe
Fast pacelines, southeast hills
PHENOM Cycle Club runs one of Austin’s more demanding Saturday morning group rides, departing Cycleast on East Cesar Chavez at 8:30 AM sharp. The route covers 40–50 miles of rolling southeast Austin terrain at a 16–18 mph average, with paceline format that expects riders to know how to sit in and pull through. This is an intermediate-to-advanced experience — not a drop ride exactly, but not a hand-holding situation either.
The group ranges from 15 to 50 riders depending on the week and the weather. There’s a regroup at the water stop and a paceline return that keeps things organized even as the pace climbs. Rain or shine, the ride goes — which is the kind of consistency that builds a regular roster of committed riders who know exactly what Saturday morning looks like.
If you’re looking to sharpen your group riding skills or want a structured workout with company, PHENOM’s Saturday ride delivers that. Pre-ride, Flat Track Coffee operates in the same Cycleast building — a solid way to top off before rolling out at 8:30.
