The vibe
Pedal-powered mutual aid
The Inner-SE Community Care Ride does something most group rides don’t: it ends with something useful accomplished. The monthly ride uses cargo bikes and trailers to move food donations from collection points to free fridges and community pantries across inner SE Portland. You’re riding with purpose, and the cargo bike crowd brings a different energy than the sport-cycling scene.
Cargo bikes and bike trailers are especially welcome — the whole point is moving food efficiently by bike. But any bike works; you don’t need a Tern or a Bullitt to show up and help. The ride moves at a pace everyone can sustain, and the point is participation rather than performance.
Meeting at Abernethy Elementary School at 10 AM. Monthly schedule — check shift2bikes.org for the specific dates. If you have a cargo bike that’s been sitting in your garage, this is a genuinely good use of it. The community care infrastructure it supports is real and consistently utilized in SE Portland’s neighborhoods.
