Monday Night PIR — Portland International Raceway
Portland's premier weeknight road racing series at PIR. Competitive crits for all categories, fast laps, and post-race hangs. Runs April through summer.
The vibe
Portland's weeknight crit institution
Monday Night PIR is the heartbeat of Portland road racing — a weekly criterium series at Portland International Raceway that draws everyone from Cat 5 newcomers to seasoned masters looking to stay sharp. The flat, technical circuit at PIR is forgiving enough to learn on and fast enough to hurt when the pace goes up. Registration is through OBRA’s series system, so you can commit to the full points chase or show up when the schedule allows.
The start line vibe is that particular mix of nervous energy and familiarity you only get at a well-established local race series. Regulars know the corners, the teams know each other, and the cat-and-mouse race dynamics get dialed in as the season progresses. It’s serious racing without the travel budget of a UCI event.
If you’re new to crit racing in the Pacific Northwest, this is exactly where to start. The race organization is tight, the categories are well-matched, and the post-race debrief happens naturally in the parking lot — comparing sprint lines, complaining about the wind, planning next week’s attack. Check obra.org for the current series schedule and registration windows.
