Move by Bike Portland
Community bike-powered moving events where Portland cyclists use trailers to help neighbors move. Part moving day, part housewarming — bikes, beer, and friendship.
The vibe
Moving day is a party
Move by Bike is exactly what it sounds like — a group of Portland cyclists shows up with trailers, loads someone’s belongings onto them, and pedals it all to the new address. It works better than you’d think, and the people who organize it have moved everything from studio apartments to full households. Coffee and donuts happen before the move, beer and food after — which means the incentive structure for volunteers is basically perfect.
Each event is organized around a specific move, so the schedule varies. Volunteers coordinate through Shift’s network, and the whole thing operates on mutual aid logic: you help someone move today, and when your turn comes, the crew shows up for you. There’s no fitness requirement beyond being able to pedal a loaded trailer a few miles at a relaxed pace. Check the Shift calendar for upcoming moves, or post in the Shift community if you need movers for your own upcoming relocation.
