The vibe
Coffee run after dark
Tuesday Night Lights is what happens when you refuse to let the work week kill your riding schedule. Every Tuesday at 6pm, the group rolls out from the Parkrose/Sumner Transit Center and heads north toward Jantzen Beach for a coffee stop at Panera, then turns back — 21 miles at a brisk but manageable 13–15 mph. It’s an intermediate-paced ride that leans toward the faster end when the group comes out swinging.
The route is straightforward and well-suited to riders who know their way around the city but want structure and company for a weeknight effort. Dave McQuery typically leads, so you’ll know someone’s accountable for the pace and the turnaround. The Jantzen Beach stop gives you just enough time to refuel and swap stories before heading back.
One hard rule: you need a white headlight visible from 500 feet, a rear tail light, and bright clothing — reflective if you have it. This isn’t the ride to show up on without lights. Non-members can register through the PBC website without an account; members log in first to get their spot. Check portlandbicyclingclub.com for the current season’s schedule.
