RMCC Mt. Blue Sky from Golden
Rocky Mountain Cycling Club's challenging road climb from Golden to Mt. Blue Sky summit — part of the 2026 Challenge Series featuring the front range's best routes.
The vibe
High alpine summit grind
Mt. Blue Sky — formerly known as Mt. Evans — sits at 14,271 feet and hosts the highest paved road in North America. RMCC’s Challenge Series route climbs to the summit from Golden, making for one of the most demanding single-day efforts in front-range road cycling. The altitude, the grade, and the distance conspire to make this a legitimate test even for strong riders.
The Challenge Series is RMCC’s curated list of the best routes in Colorado for under 100 miles — rides the club considers worth doing well rather than just checking off. Mt. Blue Sky earns its spot. The approach from Golden gives you a long warm-up before the real climbing begins, and the summit views are the kind that make the suffering feel proportional.
RMCC membership opens access to the ride — check rmccrides.com for route details and any updates on road conditions or permit requirements. The Mt. Blue Sky road can have closures and restrictions; confirm the status before the day. Bring layers, because the summit temperature is going to be considerably colder than the trailhead.
