RMCC’s Sunday Fixed Gear Ride is the Front Range’s off-season answer to hibernation — a winter program that keeps riders on the road from October through March, wind, cold, or otherwise. It starts about 30 miles north of Denver in Erie, at 100 Autumn Court, and covers 40-60 miles at a steady pace built for keeping legs turning over rather than chasing a KOM.
Despite the name, you don’t need an actual fixed-gear bike to show up — it’s officially the “Fixed or Free(wheel)” ride, and any bike is welcome. Mike Prendergast coordinates the weekly outing and keeps a notification list for riders who want a heads-up before each Sunday.
Bring real layers. Winter riding out of Erie means genuine cold and open-plains wind, and this isn’t a no-drop social spin — it’s a mileage-focused club ride for people who’d rather ride through winter than wait it out.
