The vibe
Above treeline, all glory
Trail Ridge Road is the highest continuous paved road in the United States, reaching 12,183 feet through Rocky Mountain National Park. Cycling it is a different category of experience — above treeline, with tundra stretching in every direction and the surrounding mountains laid out below you. It’s the kind of ride that gets referenced for years afterward.
RMCC includes this as part of the Charlie Henderson Challenge Series for a reason: it represents Colorado cycling at its most dramatic. The pace groups accommodate different fitness levels, but there’s no hiding from the altitude and the sustained climbing that Trail Ridge demands. August timing is intentional — snow can linger on the road well into summer.
Free with club membership. Meetup registration opens ahead of the event. Come prepared for mountain weather that changes quickly, sun exposure above treeline, and the particular effort of climbing at altitude. An adventure cycling computer will show impressive numbers on this one.
