The vibe

High-country gravel at its finest

SBT GRVL has established itself in just a few years as one of the signature events in American gravel cycling. Set in Steamboat Springs — the ski town turned summer cycling mecca — the event sends riders into Colorado’s high country on 144 miles of gravel roads with 11,000 feet of climbing. The Yampa Valley backdrop is genuinely spectacular.

The event runs four distance options (142, 37, 22, and 7.5 miles), making it accessible to a wide range of riders. The full distance is the headline act: a day-long journey through ranch land, forest roads, and mountain passes that tests fitness, navigation, and equipment in equal measure. Fully stocked aid stations, neutral mechanical support, and a well-organized finish festival make the logistics as good as the riding.

Steamboat itself is worth the trip regardless of the event. The town has embraced cycling with good roads, quality bike services, and a mountain town energy that makes the post-ride recovery feel like a reward rather than an afterthought. Registration opens in January and sells out quickly — the event has grown steadily every year since its 2019 debut.
