Kid-friendly urban lake loop
The Lake Union Family Ride wraps a genuinely good afternoon in a single 6.9-mile loop around one of Seattle’s most iconic urban lakes. Starting from Gas Works Park, the route follows multi-use trails and protected bike lanes — terrain that’s accessible to kids on their own bikes or passengers in cargo bikes and trailers. The pace is yours to set, and the scenery makes every mile worth rolling.
Rest stops along the way include South Lake Union Park with food vendors, children’s activities, and free tours at MOHAI and the Center for Wooden Boats. If you’ve got a kid who needs an extra mile of excitement, an optional Fremont Troll detour is built into the route. E-bikes (Class 1 and 2) are welcome, which means nobody has to sit this one out.
Tickets run $45 for members, $60 for non-members, with youth at $5 — a reasonable entry point for a fully supported and organized family cycling experience. Organized by Cascade Bicycle Club, the same organization that runs STP and some of the Northwest’s most beloved cycling events.
