The vibe
Lake loops, eastside afternoons
A Tuesday afternoon ride along the north Lake Washington shoreline with the Cascades on the horizon — MEOW (Midweek Eastside On Wheels) earns its acronym by being genuinely pleasant. The 27-mile loop from South Kirkland Park and Ride follows the Burke-Gilman and SR520 Trail at a Moderate pace, keeping things conversational while still covering real ground. The 4:15 PM start is a bit early for traditional after-work timing, but if you can swing it, the afternoon light on the lake is worth the schedule adjustment.
The Moderate pace means you’re comfortable at 13–16 mph in a group — not crawling, not racing. The route is well-supported by paved trail infrastructure, so the riding is clean and predictable. Good for cyclists who know their way around a group ride but aren’t looking to prove anything on a Tuesday afternoon.
Free Cascade Bicycle Club ride, advance registration required through cascade.org. The South Kirkland Park and Ride has solid parking and transit access if you’re commuting to the start.
