The vibe

Ride for a cause, all paces welcome

The NorCal chapter of the Arthritis Foundation Bike Classic training group runs weekly rides from January through September across Bay Area trailheads, building toward the foundation’s charity cycling events. You don’t need to be registered for any particular event to ride with them — the weekly rides are open to anyone who wants good company on consistent routes with a no-drop commitment.

Two pace groups make it genuinely inclusive: one running around 10 mph for riders building base fitness or returning from a break, another at 20 mph for stronger riders logging training volume. Routes typically cover 40+ miles with 2,000+ feet of climbing through the Bay Area’s hill systems. For context, that’s real elevation that produces real fitness gains.

Specific weekly ride locations post on Meetup and Cycling4Fun.com. The group has been running long enough to have regulars across both pace groups, which gives it a social depth that single-pace charity rides often lack. Following the September finale, riders interested in the California Coast Classic (SF to LA) have a community to train with all year.
