The vibe

The whole Bay rides today

Once a year, the Bay Area’s nine counties collectively agree that today is a bike day. On May 14, 2026, Bike to Wherever Day turns the entire region into an encouragement machine — hundreds of Energizer Stations pop up at parks, coffee shops, intersections, and trailheads, staffed by volunteers handing out commemorative tote bags, snacks, treats, and a dose of cheerful peer pressure to anyone who shows up on two wheels.

In San Francisco, the SF Bicycle Coalition coordinates the city’s energizer station network, placing stops in neighborhoods across the city so that wherever you’re riding — to work, to brunch, to the farmer’s market — you’re likely to pass one. The vibe is more block party than organized ride: there’s no start line, no pace group, no route to follow. You just bike somewhere, and the city meets you halfway.

It’s a perfect day to bring a friend who’s been on the fence about commuting by bike, or to finally try that route you’ve been meaning to ride. Check the SFBC website and the Bay Area Bike to Wherever Day map ahead of time to find the stations closest to your path, and aim to hit at least one before the bags run out.
