The vibe

Pedal with purpose, wine country backdrop

The Green Fondo Climate Ride is a two-day fundraising fondo that rolls through northern California wine country with a point: every rider raises money for climate-focused nonprofits. Team SF rides together to benefit the SF Bicycle Coalition and Walk SF, and this year’s event runs May 15–17 out of Walker Creek Ranch in Petaluma — about an hour north of the city, deep into Marin and Sonoma county back roads.

Day one offers 30, 60, or 100-mile options. Day two adds a 20, 35, or 65-mile route. The terrain is classic NorCal — rolling vineyard grades, mixed pavement and gravel roads, fog burning off by mid-morning to reveal proper wine country views. It’s not a race, but it’s not a slow roll either; riders self-select by distance and the atmosphere is solidly enthusiastic-amateur.

To join Team SF, sign up through Climate Ride’s registration and select “Team SF” during checkout. You’ll need to commit to raising a minimum of $250 by May 2, with registration running $75. The money raised goes directly to the organizations you designate — SFBike, Walk SF, or both. It’s the kind of ride where the scenery is the reward and the fundraising is the excuse to keep training through spring.
