Silver Rush 50 exists in the shadow of its bigger sibling, the Leadville Trail 100, but for a lot of riders it’s the more important race — this is the primary qualifier that determines who gets a Leadville 100 starting slot the following month. The course climbs historic mining roads above 10,000 feet, through terrain that’s as much about managing altitude as it is about handling skills. Riders who’ve never raced above tree line will feel it in the first few miles; the thin air doesn’t care how fit you are at sea level.
