The vibe
USA Cycling Club of the Year
Since 2002, Velo Girls has been the Bay Area’s benchmark for women’s cycling clubs — and the USA Cycling Club of the Year accolade (multiple times) isn’t just a trophy on the shelf. The club runs road rides, mountain biking, gravel, and cyclocross events for anyone who identifies as a woman, with skill-building clinics running through the season to help members actually get better.
The beginner-friendly “Melo Velo” rides cover around 15 miles and are explicitly designed for newer riders to get comfortable in a group setting. Regular rides go from Woodside Town Hall and various other Bay Area locations, and the club reaches 4,000+ members — which means there’s almost always someone going out who matches your pace.
If you’re new to the Bay Area or new to group riding and you identify as a woman, this is the entry point with the most built-in infrastructure. The clinic offerings, pace variety, and sheer size of the community mean you can grow with the club from your first group ride to whatever cycling goal comes next.
