Western Wheelers Bicycle Club
Palo Alto road club since 1968 with 900+ members and A-E paced rides across the Peninsula and South Bay, from easy spins to brisk hammerfests.
The vibe
Every pace has a letter
Western Wheelers has been organizing Peninsula road rides since 1968, and the club’s ride-rating system is still the clearest way to self-sort into a group that won’t wreck you or bore you. Routes are graded A through E, slowest to fastest — A and B rides are conversational with frequent regroups, C splits into C- and C+ for riders finding their footing, and D/E rides are brisk, self-sufficient efforts for people who train.
With 900+ members, there’s almost always something on the calendar: weekday evening spins out of Sunnyvale, Los Altos, Mountain View, and Palo Alto, plus a fuller weekend schedule. From January through May the club runs Long Distance Training (LDT) Saturdays, progressively longer B/C/D/E routes built to get riders ready for the club’s own Sequoia Century and other summer goals.
Non-members are welcome as guests before joining — annual dues are $35. If you’re building toward a century or just want a road club with structure and options at every level, this is a long-running one to plug into.
