Wild Horse Gravel exists because of a rare arrangement: High Lonesome Ranch, a massive private property near De Beque, opens its roads for one weekend a year. That’s the whole draw. Riders get access to terrain that’s otherwise gated off — quiet ranch roads, open range, and views you can’t get any other way in this part of the Western Slope.
Two distances, 65 and 46 miles, cover rolling high-desert terrain that’s less punishing than the big-name Colorado gravel races but still plenty of dirt to earn your finish. Because it’s private land, expect a more low-key, controlled event feel — smaller field, quieter start line, no crowds lining the route.
It’s a long drive from the Front Range, so plan on making a weekend of it. De Beque itself is tiny, so bring what you need rather than counting on finding it in town.
